The newly opened Paul Bunyan Trail runs within 50 yards of BaySide. The trail, blacktopped from Brainerd to Hackensack, is the premier biking trail in the state. When completed it will run more than 100 miles from Brainerd to Bemidji and intersect other trails. The trail is best for bikes and in-line skates during the summer and snowmobiles during the winter. The pedaling is easy, with no steep inclines.
The most scenic section of the trail runs from BaySide north toward Hackensack and Ten Mile Lake, as it meanders past lakes, meadows and wetlands. The bird and critter watching is superb. The trail is groomed for snowmobiles, as are hundreds of miles of other interconnected trails that wind through the woods and across the lakes, with plenty of available stops along the way.
